Spotlight on Hawk’s Mill Winery
by Terese Joranlien, owner
MC – Your Chamber Ribbon Cutting was just about a year ago. How have things gone over the first year since your ribbon cutting?
TJ – The past year has been a complete blur. We quickly realized our current production area was not going to sustain us, so we broke ground on a new production facility in the summer and moved into that in October. We started out with 6 wines on our tasting menu and are now at 11 with more coming. We launched a new wine package called FUN BAGS which has been a huge success. We’ve had some really great events in our first year, and continue with plans for more. We also started selling our wines through distribution, and are licensed to direct ship to Illinois.
MC – As a new business owner, I’m sure you had expectations before you opened. Have they been met?
TJ – Business has been beyond our expectations. In our first 9 months, we quadrupled our original business plan for the number of cases of wine sold. We’ve already completed our first expansion and are reviewing plans for an additional expansion down the road.
MC – What has surprised you the most?
TJ – The support of our customers and the local communities.
MC – What do you know now, that you wish you would have known then?
TJ – Make more wine!
MC – What/who are you most thankful for?
TJ – We are most thankful for our awesome customers and their support along with the Chamber, Green County and all the surrounding communities. We are also very thankful for the great staff that we have with us on this crazy ride. We couldn’t do it without them.
MC – What other things should Chamber Members know about your business?
TJ – We are now open 7 days a week – 11 am-7 pm through September. Our Winter hours of Wed- Sat, 11 am-7 pm and Sundays 12-5 pm will be in effect from October- April. Check out our website at www.hawksmillwinery.com and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hawksmillwinery/
