Monroe Golf Club was the perfect backdrop for our twenty-six teams to hit the links on a picture-perfect day. Some familiar faces were joined by a new crop of teams making a great day to introduce yourselves, shake hands and enjoy a beautiful day outdoors. Thanks to Colony Brands for their sponsorship and the support of Woodford State Bank, TDS Telecom and PDC,

Our 11th Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing had the weather gods on our side. Wednesday, August 21st at the Monroe Golf Club was an impeccable place to be.  In a very competitive field, top honors went to team “Out of Bounds”  with a score of 52.  Dearth Motors took second place with a score of 54 and third Place went to the YMCA. Playing for the top team was Jim Bruce, Rich Barry, Barry Hill, and Tommy Stauffacher.  During the awards presentation,  along with the traditional prize money they were awarded the coveted ‘Green T-Shirts” Courtesy of Patrick Doyle and  Bullets Pizza.

It would not be a golf outing without our $1,000,000.00 hole in one challenge sponsored by Big Radio and Empire Media.   Kevin Genthe was the lucky random participant who got to try his best at a hole in one. His best effort did not quite get on the green when all was said and done. We all love the great sportsmanship even with the lack of golf experience.  Genthe was a true player that day.

This Year, Mosher and Associates sponsored a $10,000 Putting Challenge   Players had a chance to qualify to attempt a 50-foot putt with Ron Markum being our finalist.  Even with the best coaching, Markham was not able to connect to the hole. That’s a long way to make a putt.  Thank for everyone who played.

Adding to the Fun, We had a Driving Range Challenge sponsored by Kevin’s Mattress and Appliance Super Store.  With a Target in the middle of the driving range, one lucky winner was going home with a luxury set of bedding.  With a Shot that went in an out of the target, Scott Larson took home the driving range prize. Someone is going to sleep better for sure!

After golf was over, the clubhouse was packed with golfers as they enjoyed a relaxing grilled feast. Pin prizes were awarded on several holes, and door prizes were also awarded to randomly selected teams. Our always popular 50/50 raffle was a hit again this year.  Raffle baskets and a live auction conducted by David Koning put the FUN in Fundraising!  “The Booze Hounds” rounded out the night with live music.

Some of the fun for the day included Culvers, “Sweet Shot”, Death Motors “Elevate your Game”, Hughes Resources, “Life’s a Beach”, and TDS donated 4 tickets to see the Madison Forward to Larry Young who found the pink flamingo on the course.

We could not put together such an amazing day without the help of countless sponsors,  donations, and volunteers. Thank you to everyone that was able to participate and support us. See you next year on Wednesday, August 19, 2020

Colette and Melissa, The Monroe Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Ambassadors.
